Questions to ask before choosing a stay

The useful questions that bring a listing to life, from included costs and furnishings to arrival, internet and the small details of daily living.

Photos and a description can help you picture a home, but they cannot answer every question about living there. Before you choose a monthly stay, make a short list of the details that matter to your routine and ask the owner directly.

Start with dates and total costs

Confirm the exact move-in and move-out dates, and how the calendar-month length is handled for your particular stay. Ask which costs are included in the quoted amount and whether anything else is expected. Review the payment schedule, cancellation terms and any clearly stated deposit or additional charge before agreeing.

  • Are my exact dates available, including arrival and departure timing?
  • Which utilities, internet or services are included?
  • Are there any additional charges, and when are they due?
  • What are the payment and cancellation terms?

Picture an ordinary Tuesday

Think beyond the first evening. If you cook, ask what kitchen equipment is there. If you work remotely, ask where a laptop can be set up and whether internet details are available. If quiet matters, ask about the home’s surroundings and any known noise patterns rather than relying on a broad promise.

Ask about the practical things you will use

  • Sleeping arrangements and the size of each bed
  • Laundry access and whether it is private or shared
  • Heating, cooling and ventilation, as relevant to the season
  • Parking, transit, stairs, elevator access or accessibility needs
  • House rules, pets, smoking and shared spaces

Understand arrival and help

Ask how keys or entry instructions are provided, what time you can arrive, and whom to contact if something is not working. For a longer stay, it is reasonable to understand how routine maintenance is handled and how much notice is given for access.

If you are not sure how a payment or communication request fits the booking, pause and check the platform’s guidance. Keep the conversation and agreed terms in a record you can refer back to. The Month ‘n’ More safety page offers additional guidance for using the marketplace thoughtfully.

Make the questions yours

A useful conversation is not an interrogation. Share the relevant context—perhaps you need a desk for a work assignment or an easy route to a particular neighborhood—and ask focused questions. Clear answers help both sides decide whether the stay is a good match.

Once the important details are clear, return to the dates, description and terms one last time. Then choose with a more complete picture of what your month will look like.
